Animal, Vegetable, Miracle by Barabara Kingsolver: In this blend of memoir and journalistic investigation, Barbara Kingsolver describes her family’s adventure as they move to a farm in southern Appalachia and realign their lives with the local food chain. Available on Hoopla (e-book, audio).

We celebrate LGBTQ+ Pride month in June to honor the 1969 Stonewall Uprising in Manhattan. The Stonewall Uprising was a tipping point for the Gay Liberation Movement. Memorials are held during this month for members of the community who have been lost to hate crimes or HIV/AIDS. The purpose of Pride Month is to recognize the impact that LGBTQ+ people have had on history locally, nationally, and internationally and to celebrate individuals in the LGBTQ+ community. These titles feature LGBTQ+ characters, authors, and stories.

The Lilac People by Milo Todd: In 1932 Berlin, Bertie, a trans man, spends carefree nights at the Eldorado Club and works to improve queer rights in Germany and beyond. Everything changes when Hitler rises to power, the institute he works at is raided, and queer people are rounded up. The Lilac People follows Bertie and Sofie in the final days of the war as they vow to protect a young trans man they find dressed in prison clothes and collapsed on their property, and the ramifications of that decision.
