Responding to a need.
In response to an increasing number of families asking the Chillicothe Public Library District for services, the Board of Trustees is offering the opportunity for anyone living in Saratoga, Steuben, La Prairie, and Whitefield townships –not served by a public library–to join the Chillicothe Public Library District.
This opportunity will be in the form of a question posed to voters in November’s election. The referendum will ask if designated unserved areas of Marshall County should be annexed into the Chillicothe Public Library District.
What would the annexation mean?
Annexation would provide access to library materials not only at Chillicothe Public Library District, but also at the 140+ partner libraries throughout Central Illinois, including Lacon, Henry, Brimfield, Lillie M. Evans, Wyoming, Dunlap, Peoria, Fondulac, Geneseo, Galva, Alpha Park and others.
Based on an average home value of $100,000, becoming part of the Chillicothe Public Library District would mean paying approximately $100 in property taxes annually for library services. An investment that’s returned in just one visit to the library!
What are the benefits?
Becoming part of the district will provide the 900+ households free access to hundreds of thousands of eBook and eAudiobook titles, movies, TV shows, music, and educational courses. Also available to borrow, traditional materials like award winning and recommended books for all reading levels and interests, audiobooks, DVDs, video games, even non-traditional items like board games, STEM equipment, and learning kits to help with homeschooling.
Bridging the Broadband Gap.
Chillicothe Public Library District is committed to helping bridge the broadband gap in the unserved areas through the Hotspot lending program by providing borrowers in-home internet connectivity for up to 10 devices. The library also provides free WiFi that’s even accessible 24 hours a day, 7 days a week from the parking lot!
Commitment to our Communities.
The library’s Mission Statement sums up our commitment, and passion for serving our communities: The library enriches lives, builds community, and encourages success by bringing people, information, and ideas together.
Community is about helping others live a better life.
