Back to School at Chillicothe Public Library

The summer heat may be sticking around for a while, but August means that back to school time is just around the corner! Read on to discover the many ways that Chillicothe Public Library District (CPLD) can help families and educators read and learn this school year.

In-Library Youth Programming

CPLD has free after school crafts, cooking, book clubs, and STEM activities for young children, tweens, and teens. There are also Half-day Hangouts on District 321 SIP days for ages eight and up. For homeschool families, the library offers twice-monthly programs for all ages throughout the school year. Check out the library calendar for details!

Reading Challenges

If your child isn’t old enough to go to school just yet, you can sign up to read 1000 Books before Kindergarten with them and set your budding reader up for success. The library also hosts reading challenges every season for readers of all ages! In September and October, challenge yourself to read three titles from three different genres and earn a fun prize.

Learning Kits

The library also has several types of learning kits available for checkout. Guided reading books and literacy kits are designed to support the development of reading and comprehension skills for preschool-8th grade students. Art education kits contain materials for learning about a specific artist’s life and work. STEM kits challenge children to think creatively and practice math and technology skills. All of these resources are available to anyone with a library card!

School Outreach

CPLD’s Youth Department is enthusiastic about partnering with local schools to support their efforts! Teachers can request that a librarian visit their classroom to talk about books or online research, conduct book clubs, and more. Educators can also request books, games, kits, and other resources to be delivered to their classroom. In addition, CPLD welcomes teachers to bring their classes on field trips to the library.
