The Booker Prize is the leading literary award in the English speaking world. The shortlist for the 2025 Booker Prize:

Flashlight by Susan Choi
The Loneliness of Sonia and Sunny by Kiran Desai
Audition by Katie Kitamura
Flesh by David Szalay

Flashlight by Susan Choi: Ten-year-old Louisa is walking with her father along the beach of their small Japanese town when he mysteriously vanishes. This shatters their small family unit, leading Louisa and her American mother to return to the US, where the mystery begins to unravel. Available on Libby (e-book) and Hoopla (e-book).

The Loneliness of Sonia and Sunny by Kiran Desai: Follow the story of Sonia and Sunny whose fates intersect and diverge across continents and years. As these two young people navigate the forces shaping their lives and the complicated bonds that link generations together, we get an epic tale of love and family. Available on Libby (e-book).

Audition by Katie Kitamura: An accomplished actress and a young man, young enough to be her son, meet for lunch. Who is he to her and who is she to him? With two competing narratives, our understanding of everyday roles–partner, parent, creator, muse–is rewritten and the truth begins to unspool. Available on Libby (e-book, e-audiobook).

Flesh by David Szalay (winner of the Booker Prize 2025): A collection of intimate moments over the course of decades, Flesh chronicles a man at odds with himself—estranged from the circumstances of a life not entirely under his control and the roles that he is asked to play. Available on Libby (e-book)

The other two books on the Booker Prize shortlist are not available at our library. The Land in Winter by Andrew Miller can be found on Hoopla (e-audiobook) and Libby (e-book). The Rest of Our Lives by Ben Markovits will be released on December 29, 2025.
