Art in the Garden

Visit the library garden any time during the month of July, and make a piece of art using your unique perspective and whatever media you prefer (pencils, camera, markers, watercolors, pastels, etc.). When it’s done, bring it by the library for us to photograph, or take a photo yourself and email it to We’ll put all the images together into a summery splash celebrating nature’s amazing shapes, colors, and patterns!

Solar Oven S’mores

Harness the power of the sun to make a gooey treat! Register by 8/1 so we make sure to have enough materials. Age 11-18.

Mysteries of the Sky

Tues., Aug 8 @ 1 pm
Lee Green of the Twin Cities Amateur Astronomers Club will talk about how the stars, moons and planets move around in our sky, and how that movement affects what we see. He’ll discuss the upcoming solar eclipse and talk about how to watch it safely. Weather permitting, we will also view the sun through Lee’s solar binoculars.

Small Project: Big Impact

Hear local Girl Scout Kath Schneider talk about her Gold Award project and its impact on the local environment. She’ll share stories about her work to reduce erosion in a creek ravine, including building a check dam, controlled burns, and maintenance of invasive tree species.

Eclipse Viewing Party

Celebrate one of the most amazing events in nature with your friends at the library! We’ll have snacks and safe viewing glasses for all. A partial solar eclipse will be visible in Chillicothe, but it will still be a mighty fine show.

The way you handle your finances will have a big impact on your entire life! Learn to create a budget, balance a checkbook, establish a savings account, and build a good credit history.
