Library Services
Here is a brief summary of some of the services we provide to our patrons at the Chillicothe Public Library. If you have any questions, comments, or concerns about anything you read here, please call or stop by the library so we can assist you.
Circulation Services
Our circulation desk is located when you first enter our library. This the place where most all your questions, concerns, comments, and inquiries can be addressed. It is also where you go to check out all library materials that are available to you.
If you have any questions about fines/checkout times/overdues or any other inquiries feel free to ask!
Items Available for checkout, and the length of time for borrowing
Also available at the circulation desk is a wide selection of local and national newspapers delivered daily! Just ask a staff member if you can look at a paper and they will hand it to you.
- All Books, Magazines, Cd's, Audio Books - 2 week checkout time
- All Movies (vhs & dvd)- 1 week checkout time
Receipts will be provided at time of checkout. If you do not receive or want a reciept, please ask for the due date to be written down for you.
If you need to renew materials please call or come by with your library card and we will take care of it for you. If calling to renew, please have your library card ready.
The weather is getting warmer and the fish are biting! Stop by the library and check out one of our many fishing poles. Each pole comes with a free bag of fishing supplies!

Computer/Tech Services
Here at the library we have 16 public access computers with internet access. We also have free wifi (wireless internet) available throughout every room in our library. To use the pc's here at the library all we ask is that your fines are below $5, and that you bring your library card to sign in for the computers every time!
Rules for PC use:
- You must have YOUR library card to sign onto a computer (exceptions made for out-of-staters)
- No switching PC's without notifying someone at the circulation desk! Switching PC's without notification will end your PC use for the day!
- Viewing objectional material is not allowed - period! Any patron caught or suspected of viewing objectional material will result in immediate suspension of computer usage.
- Everyone should have a chance to use the computers. That's why we have time limits based on age. Under 12- 30mins Over 12- 1hr
- Please print preview before you make copies. It helps to know how many pages you are printing before you print them. If you print them, you will pay.
- If you need help at anytime w/computer use please ask any of our staff available
- Printing- first four (4) pages are free, after four (4) pages the cost is .25 cents.
We also have a public copy and fax machine for use at our library.

Again, if you need help with any of operating any equipment in the library, please ask a member of our staff to assist you. We will be happy to help!
Youth and Teen Services
Our youth and teen services area has recently experienced a makeover by our Young Adult Librarian Catherine Barnett. Come in and take a look for yourself at everything she has to offer, including specialized books, games, activities and programs! Feel free to call or stop by if you have any questions for Sarah.

Reference Assistance
Having trouble finding something at our library? Are you having difficulty on navigating the computers? Or are you lost and just need someone to point you in the right direction? Then head over to the reference desk where you can receive help figuring out everything you need. Alex can do just about anything on a computer or give technical assistance and/or advice.

Inter Library Loans
Are you looking for something that we don't have? No problem! We are part of an organization of libraries who freely share most all materials with us.
This service is known as ILL's and you can learn more by asking any library staff or contacting Su Mortiz our Inter Library Loan Specialist.

Community Spaces and Services Provided
Here at the Chillicothe Public Library, staff try to make the atmosphere as comfortable as possible for you. We have seperate sitting spaces available for you to enjoy your reading or do your work in comfort and privacy. We also have "study rooms" available for you to hold group work or meetings. Contact Teresa Storti for room availability.
Chapters
We have an array of drinks available at our "cafe" called Chapters. We offer orange and apple juice, as well as lemonade, ice tea, two different kinds of Cappichuno, and coffee, both regular and decaf.
Cups for Chapters are available for $1.25 cents w/ unlimited refills that day, or you can purchase our new reusable coffee mug that keeps hots hot, and colds cold and fills up unlimitedly for $.50 a day. All cups can be purchased at the Circulation Desk

Delivery Service for the elderly or handicapped
Are you wanting to read or watch movies but cannot get out of the house due to age, medical condition or disability? No problem! We offer a home delivery service for patrons within our district that have a valid up- to- date library card. Just call and let us know what you need and when you would like it. We will have it at your door ASAP!
Drive-Up Window
Do you have ILL material to pick up? Do you have young children and or pets you do not want to leave alone in the car!?
Well, you are in luck. With one simple phone call ahead, you can have your books or other library material waiting for you to check out at our drive up window located in front of our building. Call ahead, ring the bell at the window and check out your book!
Please use the drive up window for what it was meant for- checking out books! Staff requests that patrons do not ask to pay fines are purchase a drink or order materials when using the drive up window. Remember to always call ahead!
Meeting Rooms and Study Rooms
Do you need a private place to sit and study with a small group? Our study rooms are available throughout the day for patrons to use. Please check at the Circulation Desk before using the room. Study rooms are available only during regular library business hours. Scheduling is optional, but rooms are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Any scheduling must be made through Teresa Storti.
Having a party or a get together? You should check out our Public Meeting Room with full warming kitchen! Perfect for birthdays, holidays, meetings, or any presentations or events have planned.

Research and Genealogy
We have many books and papers dedicated to genealogy. In fact, we have a whole room dedicated to the subject! All that we ask is that you treat our records with respect. We have the local Chillicothe Bulletin paper all the way back to the late 1800's! We also have many other historical books and literature available both in text and on micro film (please ask if you need help with microfilm machine)
If you need a little help with your searching, we also have some classes available to help you in this area. The classes are taught by our board president Martha Canopy
, who has been doing ancestry work for many years.
If you need any info on classes, please call the library and leave your name, number, and time that is most convenient for you to come.
For your convenience we have an internet capable PC with Ancestory.com Library edition available in the genealogy room. (please ask staff to log on pc if you want to use it).
