REMINDER

Chillicothe Public Library is a small district library and staff makes an effort and takes pride in being able to identify many of our patrons by name and material preference. The necessity for all patrons to have their library card when visiting Chillicothe Public Library is two-fold. First, the computer system that we use is hooked up to a 'regional and than a universal' system for library business. This system is the reason many patrons can put a 'hold' on materials from another library through their personal computer. This system helps with statistics for requesting funds from the state. This system streamlines the check-in/check-out process. This system, for the most part, is efficient. This system, however, requires a library card with a patron bar code to do its business.

Secondly, try to think of a library card in the same manner of a credit card. Identity theft is on the rise. Do you want someone using your name, but not your card, to check out valuable library materials, and then not return those materials to the library? Your card - your responsibilty - your bill!!! Have your card ready to check out your materials. If your library card is ever lost or stolen, do not take it lightly. Report a lost or stolen card to your home library so that the card can be deleted from the system. Staff insisting on the use of a library card for checking out materials or to use the public computers is not meant to inconvenience or insult our patrons.

It's meant to protect them.
